HAMILTON — Getting a makeover on reality television appears to be a local trend.

Two shows airing Sunday, Oct. 5 will highlight the transformations of Butler County residents — five who needed a new home, and one who needed a new skill.

Airing at 1 p.m. on MTV is an episode of "Made," featuring Fairfield High School student Whitney Jo Lawson. The self-proclaimed overachiever was selected among hundreds of applicants to be taught to do something she had never tried.

Lawson's request was to be "Made" into a figure skater because her mother, who died several years ago after a battle with breast cancer, had always admired skating. Lawson worked with "Made" coach Lauren Schmalo to train for the Queen City Invitational Skating Competition that took place six weeks after she began lessons.

Several area places are featured in the episode, including Fairfield High School, Miami University Hamilton, Jungle Jim's and Kings Island. Also featured is Northland Ice Center in Evendale.

Lawson, her family and friends will be viewing the episode together at home.

Airing at 8 p.m. on the ABC network is the transformation of a home in West Chester Twp. belonging to the Akers family — two parents and three children who have faced some serious physical hardships. A crew led by TV personality Ty Pennington built a handicap-accessible home for Ginger, Greg, Brooke, Faith and Christian. The daughters have spinal muscular atrophy and have limited mobility. Their son, Christian, has Crohn's disease.

The Akers have extended an invitation to the public to join them at 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5 to watch the episode and participate in other celebratory activities at Princeton Pike Church of God in Liberty Twp. The event will be filmed by Channel 9 WCPO and is designed as a way for the Akers to thank those in the community involved in building the home.
