DAYTON — Dayton Power and Light Co. expects to have all the power outages associated with the Sept. 14 windstorm to be corrected by midnight Friday, Sept. 26, according to DP&L spokeswoman Mary Beth Weaver.
Friday started with 950 customers still without power, Weaver said, and about 1,500 repair personnel have been in the field all day dealing with the remaining outages.
DP&L called in tree clearing and line repair crews from 10 states to aid its local staff in tackling 300,000 outages suffered by customers across the utility's 24-county service area in the wake of severe windstorms on Sept. 14. At the peak of the repair efforts, 1,700 people working in round-the-clock shifts were trying to get electric service restored.
Weaver said some crews have already left the area, including some who were called back in anticipation of storms expected to hit the East Coast. She said she is not sure how many of the crews will remain in the area Saturday.
Weaver said some crews started Friday on clean-up duties associated with the storm, and extra workers will be required for that. She said, for instance, that workers installed some new poles to replace those lost to the wind, but crews now must go back to clean up the remains of the old poles.
Weaver said DP&L believes it knows where all the remaining outages are, and those properties should be serviced by midnight.
If your home or business is still without power by Saturday morning, however, you should call the company's outage line at 877-4OUTAGE.
As most of the Miami Valley was well on its way back to normal on Thursday, unlucky customers and weary repair crews continued coping.
