Y! MyWebRoad reopens after bridge replacement

MONROE – Todhunter Road, which closed due to a needed bridge replacement, has reopened.
The road on Friday, Sept. 5, reopened between the north and south legs of Yankee Road, according to the city of Monroe.
Construction on the project consisted of replacing a badly deteriorated, weight-restricted, 50-foot steel beam bridge with a new concrete box beam structure and upgrading 2,000 feet of 8-inch water lines with 12-inch water lines.
The $950,000 project was completed by SK Construction of Middletown, with approximately $500,000 coming from a Ohio Public Works Commission grant.
The bridge was built in 1931, and it received substantial rehabilitation in 1975, said Brad Collins, the city's public works director.
An estimated 4,800 vehicles pass over Todhunter Road bridge each day, he said.
The city placed a three-ton weight limit on the bridge because of its deterioration. Plans call for the city to lift the weight limit once the bridge has been replaced, Collins has said.
