Mike Crotty says he doesn't want to create 'any difficult situations.'

Former Mason High School assistant varsity basketball coach Mike Crotty said he won't return to that part-time position this fall in the wake of an underage drinking party held at his Mason home in December.
"I have not had any discussions at all with the school district," Crotty said. "I had already offered to resign. I know the coach (Greg Richards) real well and I don't want to put him in any difficult situations. I won't be returning at this time."
Crotty is scheduled to appear in Mason Municipal Court at 4 p.m. today, July 17, to hear whether Judge D. Andrew Batsche will approve a pre-trial diversion agreement. Crotty was facing one misdemeanor charge for allegedly allowing adults younger than age 21 to drink alcohol in his home.
Mason City Prosecutor Robert Peeler offered Crotty a diversion program, which means the misdemeanor charge will be dismissed after 180 days if Crotty completes 40 hours of community service, attends a 10-week class that addresses "accountability for his actions" and pays court costs and a $150 fine.
Crotty said he can't discuss the case against him at this time.
