Bar suspects
restroom arsonist
Managers of an Uptown Bar told police they believed an unidentified object had been lit on fire in a women's restroom June 30.
Police spoke with Brick Street Bar representatives, who reportedly said a suspect had entered the bathroom on two different occasions within 10 minutes of a fire being discovered in the bathroom.
Brick Street turned over a video of the fire and statements regarding the incident to police, who are still investigating the arson.
Chair involved in domestic violence
A 45-year-old Oxford man allegedly pushed his son, then struck him with a chair on July 2.
Police arrested Orville Jones, 5093 College Corner Pike, on charges of domestic violence after receiving reports he had attacked his son.
Jones reportedly pushed his son during the conflict and then attacked him with a chair. Officers apprehended Jones at his home and transported him to the Butler County Jail.
Train avoids collision with car
A potentially dangerous collision was averted July 1 when a CSX engineer stopped a train just North of a Main Street railroad crossing.
Officers were dispatched to the crossing at 4:47 a.m., on reports of a Jeep stopped on the tracks. The engineer operating the train told police he saw the reflection of headlights ahead on the tracks and was able to bring the train to a stop before striking the vehicle.
Police made contact with the vehicle's owner, who said he had parked the Jeep with the keys in it at Silvoor Lane. Various items were reportedly missing from the Jeep as well as the owner's residence.
The Jeep was towed from the scene and impounded by police, pending further processing.
Man arrested on four open warrants
An Oxford man was arrested July 1 on three separate failure to appear in court warrants and a felony warrant out of Butler County.
Police encountered 31-year-old Christopher Pittman, of the 800 block of South Main Street, during an investigation last week. Pittman allegedly identified himself as Chris Johnson, but provided police with his real Social Security number.
Another person at the scene reportedly informed police of Pittman's true identity, leading officers to discover his outstanding warrants. Pittman was arrested on three failure to appear warrants out of Area 1 Court and a felony warrant through the Butler County Sheriff's Office. He was then transported to the Butler County Jail.
