Ron Taulbee wins

robot competition

Ron Taulbee, a freshman at The Ohio State University majoring in mechanical engineering, won the annual Fundamentals of Engineering for Honors Robot Design Competition. He competed in the 60-team event May 22, where his four-man team, "Team L.A.S.E.R.," all received scholarships for the fall quarter.

He finished his freshman year with a 3.95 GPA in the Honors Engineering program. Ron is a Lakota East graduate and is the son of Lori and Bob Mynhier of West Chester Twp.

Matt Taulbee completes OBW

Matt Taulbee, a junior at Lakota East High School, attended Ohio Business Week at the Ohio Dominican University, upon nomination from one of his teachers at Lakota East. 

He completed the week-long program, finishing second in the category of Web and Print Advertisement in the Emerging Entrepreneur Project.  Upon graduation from Lakota East in 2009, Matt plans to attend the University of Tennessee's Business Administration program majoring in accounting.

Matt is the son of Lori and Bob Mynhier of West Chester Twp.

Musicians place at composition festival

Four students from West Chester Academy of Music placed in the top ranks for the United States division at the 21st annual International Composition Festival. The largest in the world of its kind, students have the opportunity to strengthen their aural, reading and harmony skills through music composition. West Chester music students under the direction of Patsy Rabinowitz and their compositions were: Kira Leeann Weil, third place, "A Sparkling Poney"; Emilee Warne, second place, "Louise's Lullaby"; and Gavin Brown, third place, "Snowday Blues." West Chester music student Zaira Abenti placed third with "My Rooster," under the direction of Lan Kratzke.

Beyer earns

honor at St. Gabriel

Saint Gabriel Consolidated School has honored Emma Beyer with the eighth annual Flo Edelmann Scholarship Award. The award was presented to her at graduation by Joe Epplen, principal of St. Gabriel Consolidated School.

The award, given in honor of now retired St. Gabriel Principal Flo Edelmann, provides a $500 scholarship per year towards high school tuition.

Emma is the daughter of Cheryl and Marty Beyer of Liberty Twp., will attend Mount Notre Dame High School.

Locals named to BGSU dean?s list

Bowling Green State University has released its dean?s list for the 2008 spring semester. To be named, students must earn a 3.5 or higher GPA. Area students earning this distinction are Jennifer P.
