Graduation news

Your correspondent attended a reception June 15 hosted by Todd and Becky Stephenson in honor of their daughter Heather's graduation from Ohio University on June 14. The reception was held at the Phillippi Meeting Room on the campus of Otterbein-Lebanon Retirement Community. Many family members were in attendance from as far away as Granville, Mount Sterling, Ky., and Indiana. All enjoyed the multimedia display and refreshments. Heather received her bachelor of arts degree in journalism. She will be returning to her home in Houston, Texas, to seek employment.

Music recital

John Stephenson attended the senior recital of Ethan Weaver on June 14 at the Church of the Savior United Methodist Church in Montgomery. Also in attendance were family and friends. Ethan's teacher, Dr. Richard Van Dyke, was master of ceremonies and gave a brief description of each movement with pieces from Bach, Mozart, Chopin, Debussey, Rachmaninoff and Ginastera. During the recital, Dr. Van Dyke performed a solo dedicated to Ethan's mother, Jean, for her love, devotion and sacrifice for her son's training. Ethan will be attending Bob Jones University in the fall majoring in piano performance. He is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Tim Weaver of Morrow.

Graduation reception

On June 14, Denis and Michelle Byrd hosted a reception in honor of their son Tyler's graduation from Franklin College in Franklin, Ind. The reception was held in the home of Fred and Pat Schappacher (Tyler's aunt and uncle) in Mason. Tyler has accepted a third-grade teaching position with the Mason City School District.

With the Merrells

Mark's brother Ward was in from Rolla, Mo., on June 12. He, along with his two sons, Jason of Batavia and Chad of Mariemont, Jason's friend Renee Barbee and Mark and Marta's daughter Morgan spent the weekend camping at Cowen Lake. The group returned to Mark and Marta's Sunday afternoon for a Father's Day cookout. Ward returned to Rolla on Monday.

Church news

Dino Detectives, the theme of this year's Vacation Bible School at Kings Mills Baptist Church, was a great success. Attendance increased from the first evening and stayed steady through closing on Friday. There were one adult and several children salvation decisions by week's end. The boys scored another victory in the penny parade competition.

VBS raised $492.14 to assist one of KMBC's Missionary children that are changing fields, moving unexpectedly to Uruguay. The week's program was presented to families on Friday evening, including a devotion from Pastor Manuel Guzman. This year's VBS was under the direction of Andy and Emily Crosby.

Prayer breakfast

On June 14, the Kings Mills Baptist Church held a prayer breakfast. In attendance were Pastor Manuel Guzman Jr., Tim and Ethan Weaver, and John Stephenson. After the prayer session, the group resorted to a local restaurant for breakfast and fellowship.
