Drunken driver reportedly hits pole, conceals drugs
A 28-year-old Oxford man allegedly struck a utility pole with his vehicle, then attempted to flee the scene last week.
On June 20, police found a red Isuzu Rodeo abandoned in front of 260 S. Locust, appearing to have collided with a pole in the immediate vicinity. The vehicle's registration came back to Andrew Bourne, who police were able to locate walking on Erin Drive.
Officers said Bourne, 1332 Dana Drive, admitted to crashing his vehicle into the pole, then failed a field sobriety test administered by police. He reportedly refused to submit to a Breathalyzer test and was transported to the Butler County Jail for the incident.
Prior to entering the jail, police said Bourne was asked if he had any drugs of weapons on his person. He denied having any, but a deputy uncovered a small baggy of marijuana buried deep in his pocket.
Bourne was charged with OVI, leaving the scene of an accident, operation without reasonable control and illegal conveyance of drugs into a detention facility.
Oxford police assist, then arrest 22-year-old on warrants
In the process of helping a 22-year-old who had been severely beaten with a baseball bat, police wound up uncovering four outstanding warrants.
Police were dispatched a fight near Parkview Arms Apartments on June 18, where they observed a subject running from the scene. After speaking with two witnesses, police were informed that Joshua Farmer, 317 W. Vine St., and another subject were arguing near Vine Street.
Upon locating Farmer, police found his right eye was swollen completely shut and his head and face were covered in knots and reddened areas. Officers also said they saw various cuts and scrapes on his arms, back and feet.
Witnesses told police Farmer had been jumped and beaten in the head with a baseball bat by known subjects. Farmer told officers he had been Uptown consuming alcohol prior and get into an argument on his way home.
As Farmer received stitches above his right eye at McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital, police were informed that the Butler County Sheriff's Office had four outstanding warrants for his arrest. He was taken into custody and held at the Oxford Police Department until a Butler County deputy could arrest him.
Cincinnati resident tells police he hails from 'love'
Police attempted to help a 24-year-old Cincinnati resident find his way home, abstract as it might have been.
Officers found Adam Fenstermacher, 3775 Jessup Road, on the ground near the corner of Church and Main streets. A friend was reportedly trying to help him get to his feet, but was unable to do so.
Police said they spoke with Fenstermacher, who appeared to be incoherent and had the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath. When asked where he lived, Fenstermacher reportedly told police "love."
Further inquiry was unsuccessful, as police said Fenstermacher alternated between ordering them to shut up and telling them "I love you, bro." He was cited for disorderly conduct and transported to the Oxford Police Department until a sober party could pick him up.
Man found bleeding denies anything happened
A Dayton resident found bleeding in the middle of Church Street received emergency treatment, but denied anything had happened to him.
Officers found the subject in the street shortly before 2:30 a.m. on June 22. Police said the 19-year-old had lacerations and swelling on his face, with blood trickling from his nose.
The man reportedly appeared to be intoxicated, but denied anything had happened to him prior to police finding him. Officers spoke with a friend with the man, who also insisted that nothing had happened.
Oxford Life Squad transported the victim to McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital for treatment of his wounds, though police said he declined to pursue any investigation or charges for the matter.
