MIDDLETOWN — Residents soon will have convenient access to outpatient surgical procedures.

Atrium Medical Center celebrated the completion of the Bidwell Surgery Center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday, May 13, at the hospital's new Middletown campus off Ohio 122.

"We're pleased to partner with Dayton Children's and area physicians to bring state-of-the-art outpatient surgical services to this campus," said Doug McNeill, president and chief executive of Atrium Medical Center.

"The opening of this center brings us one step closer to our vision of a comprehensive health and technology campus serving the region."

The 18,500-square-foot facility, which will serve children and adults, features five operating rooms and a minor procedure room for surgeries that don't require inpatient care, such as obstetrical-gynecological, plastic, podiatric and orthopedic, plus gastroenterology and other procedures.

The center also features 15 recovery areas — 10 of which are private rooms — and wireless Internet access.

"It's not often that surgeons have the opportunity to practice at a brand new facility built with our needs in mind," said Dennis Min, chairman of the Bidwell Surgery Center board of directors. "The technologies available in this center, including high-definition monitors and audiovisual integration in the operating suites, are state-of-the-art and will ultimately enhance the surgical experience."

The surgery center is currently accepting self-pay patients. The center will begin accepting Medicare patients near the end of this month, and will be open to all patients later this summer.
