The 623-acre estate of Woodrow "Woody" Bowman — former owner of the famous Woody's Market in West Carrollton — recently was auctioned off for $3.64 million to several owners.

There were 17 individual sales to purchasers including an undisclosed development group and the village of Waynesville, said Bill Duning, estate attorney and executor.

Bowman died at 93 in July 2007. His well-known West Carrollton market was razed during that same year.

The bulk of Bowman's Waynesville estate went to the development group.

"I believe it will be used as residential sites," Duning said.

A couple purchased acreage that includes the homestead, he said, and the village of Waynesville purchased 90 acres of farmland along Corwin Road for $410,000 to secure the aquifer there for future water needs related to village growth.

Details about the other sales, which were sold for slightly more than $5,800 per acre, are pending after the closings of those properties, slated for completion by month's, Duning said.
