Plant sale to benefit campground

The proceeds from a Mother's Day weekend plant sale will go directly toward the repair and maintenance of The Timber Hill Reservable Area at Rentschler Forest Preserve, Butler County's only publicly owned campground.

The May 10 sale will feature annuals, perennials, tropicals, cedar bird houses, bird feeders and garden décor. All proceeds will go toward roof repairs, construction of a shower house, the replacement of aging water lines and various other improvements and repairs around the youth camp.

The sale is being organized by The Timber Hill Restoration Coalition, a non-profit organization that works with Metroparks of Butler County to raise funds for the maintenance, improvement and restoration of the site.

THRC chairwoman Kris Roselle said revenues from the sale also could be used to expand parking.

"(Lack of parking) is actually become one of the largest concerns at Timber Hill, especially in the summer time when large day camp groups come out" she said. "If we could improve or enlarge the parking areas, we could of course accommodate many more youth at a camp."

Girls Scouts and Boy Scouts account for the majority of Timber Hill's users, Roselle said.

THRC is seeking donations of plants, garden décor, pots and potting soil for the sale. In addition, cash and in-kind donations will be accepted, as well.
