Board action cancels City Council meeting
For second time in two weeks, board tables tax incentive proposal, citing wording of agreement.

MONROE — For the second time in two weeks, the school board tabled a tax incentive deal that forced the cancellation of a City Council special meeting on the same issue.
Monroe Local Schools Board of Education delayed making a decision on a proposed deal to provide tax incentives to Home Depot to locate a $33.9 million regional distribution facility at the Corridor 75 Park Ltd., off Ohio 63 and Interstate 75 in Warren County.

Get latest headlines via RSS feedsThe board voted unanimously Monday, April 28, to table a resolution to approve community reinvestment area agreements between the city and VH Monroe LLC, which is developing more than 440 acres at the park, and VH Monroe II LLC, an affiliate of the developer, and waive a statutory period required for the deal.
Board President Tom Leeds said the board tabled the action because of wording in the resolution, and that the board will take up the matter at either its next regular meeting on May 12 or schedule a special meeting.
Board member Mike Irwin said the board needs more legal clarification on the matter.
City Manager William Brock said the special council meeting scheduled for 5:30 p.m. today on the matter is canceled as a result of the board's action.
The board also tabled a resolution at its April 14 meeting, which forced the cancellation of an April 15 special council meeting, citing wording of the agreement.
The agreement calls for Home Depot to receive an already approved 15-year, 100 percent tax abatement under an agreement struck last year between VH Monroe, the city and schools.
Warren County Commissioner Dave Young recently announced during the annual State of the County address that Home Depot would be the first to locate in Corridor 75 Park, said Martin Russell, the deputy director of the county economic development office.
