A Hamilton company has been awarded a contract to conduct the Greenridge Subdivision Storm Sewer Rehabilitation Project in Monroe.
Monroe City Council approved an emergency resolution by a 5-0 vote Tuesday, April 22, authorizing City Manager William Brock to enter into an agreement with Broshear Contracting Inc., for $326,529.19. Councilwomen Suzi Rubin and Lora Stillman were absent.

Broshear submitted the lowest and best bid of 13 companies, city officials said.
The city is paying for the project that is scheduled to begin in May and be completed by July out of its storm utility fund, said Brad Collins, Monroe's public works director.
The aging storm sewer, which Collins said is in need of upgrades, is located along several streets in the Greenridge neighborhood, which is located off Ohio 4 and Todhunter Road. The streets in the neighborhood are Niederlander Lane, Serena Way and Carol Ann Lane.
He said there are a lot of old pipes in the system that need to be replaced because the storm sewer is corroding and failing. The catch basins in the system also are old and deteriorating, and they need to be replaced, Collins said.
Plans also call for more than one mile of road resurfacing work to be done on the three streets in the subdivision, which Butler County will bid out later this summer or early fall, he said.
This part of the project is estimated to cost the city $200,000, and it will be paid out of its street resurfacing budget, Collins said.
Traffic should be maintained during the project with an occasional closing for a day or two in the subdivision to transport a culvert, he said.
