Oxford Police are searching for more than one ton of electrical grade copper that went missing on April 18.
A security guard with the Square D Company on College Corner Pike said a full-size gold Chevy truck entered the lot at 5:30 p.m. and later exited looking "weighed down."
Police said the guard followed the pickup truck and last saw the vehicle traveling east on Church Street toward College. Upon returning to Square D, the guard noticed an entire pallet of the copper missing from the west side of the plant.
Estimates put the value of the copper at approximately $7,900. Police have not arrested any subjects in relation to the theft, but investigation is ongoing.
Lawn chair theft results in arrest of Miami student
A Miami University student was arrested April 17 after police alledgedly saw him appear to steal a lawn chair.
Police said 20-year-old Ryan Connolly, 122 S. College Ave., walked from the lawn area of his residence to a nearby property, stopping in front of a white lawn chair. Connolly reportedly picked up the chair and began walking toward the sidewalk, then dropped the chair when he noticed the officer watching him.
Connolly started running east in a nearby alley, then fled from the officer again after noticing he was being pursued. Police said the officer eventually caught up with Connolly in front of UDF, placing him under arrest.
Police charged Connolly with underage intoxication and prohibited acts.
Trespasser possible, basement window shattered
A North Campus Avenue resident reported a trespasser in her home on April 19.
The 21-year-old Miami University student told police she and her roommate had heard a voice around 2:15 a.m. open a basement door and enter their kitchen. The resident said they elected to not call police at the time because they thought they were imagining things.
Approximately thirty minutes later, the resident said she heard a basement window shatter, causing her to call police. Officers observed damage to the basement window on the north side of the residence, discovering a rock that had likely been thrown through the window from the outside of the house.
Police report nothing in the basement had been disturbed or tampered with, adding that there are no suspects or witnesses in the incident.
