Wing offering free eye exams

Wing Eyecare's newest location is focusing on getting area residents to check their vision.
The family-run business has been a familiar sight in the Greater Cincinnati area since 1914. Located at 7334 Yankee Road in the same shopping center as Kroger Marketplace, Wing's Liberty Twp. location is wooing customers with free eye exams until September, when it celebrates its first anniversary. Second pair specials allow customers to purchase glasses or a year's supply of contact lenses and receive an additional set of eyeglasses at half price.
Dr. Jeffrey Hartman, optometrist for the Liberty Twp. location, said Wing's 10 Tri-State locations are different than the typical brand-name optical centers, which separate sales from the doctors who work within each site.
He said Wing Eyecare is "a private practice, but just on a bigger scale," and provides extra attention to glaucoma, diabetes and other medical conditions.
"Some places have a number of doctors that filter through, so if you have a specific condition ... you may not see the same doctor every time," Hartman said. "Because we have a main doctor at each office, you get continuity of care."
Wing offers state-of-the-art technology to evaluate eye health and a wide variety of ways to correct people's vision, including glasses, contacts and LASIK evaluations.
Many people older than 40 who may not need glasses for distance rely on store-bought reading glasses to help them read small, printed text, Hartman said.
"By doing that, they are missing out on the health aspect," he said. "Just because they have good vision does not mean their eyes are healthy."
