One Butler County company moved up on the Fortune 500 list for 2008 while another company didn't make it.

West Chester Twp.-based AK Steel Corp. was named No. 351 on this list, up from 378 last year. Fortune 500 officials cited the company's $7 billion in reported revenue as the main reason for the jump.

"AK Steel's record performance in 2007 reflects our steadfast commitment to our customers, and our ongoing efforts to achieve long-term, sustained profitability," said AK Steel president and CEO Jim Wainscott in a release responding to the Fortune 500 list announcement.

Meanwhile, Fairfield-based Cincinnati Financial did not make the Fortune list, dropping from No. 484 to No. 530.

Laura Hobbs, a spokeswoman with the company's corporate communications department, said the results were not surprising.

"The list reflects 2007 revenues. Our ranking in 2007 included $647 million from an Alltel sale in 2006. This (time) we don't have that kind of event that would affect our revenues," she said.

For the past several years, Cincinnati Financial has jumped on and off the list. It's not something the company worries about, Hobbs said.

"The Fortune 500 list is not a priority for us. That is their ranking of companies," Hobbs said.

Cincinnati-based Kroger Co. was the only area company to maintain its ranking on the list, holding at 26 with $70 billion in reported revenue.

Although not making the Fortune 500 list, Mason-based Cintas was listed at 581. The company's revenues topped $3.7 billion last year.
