Library holds
annual book sale
Extras
Friends of the West Chester Library will host its annual used book sale this weekend. Members can shop at the preview from 5 to 8 p.m. tonight, May 8.
The sale runs 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, May 9, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at the library, 7900 Cox Road.

Cancer awareness events this weekend
Community Cancer Education Day will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at University Pointe Medical Campus, 7700 University Court. The free event is designed to answer questions about cancer.

The Butterfly Walk for Cancer-free Kids will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at Cottell Park, 5847 Irwin-Simpson Road, Deerfield Twp.
Join more than 1,000 walkers to help children with cancer, one step at a time. Enjoy music, food, face painting, pony rides and games.
Liberty Junior School in West Chester Twp. will be walking in honor of Jessica Elam, a seventh-grader who is battling childhood cancer. Jessica has been receiving treatment for brain and spinal tumors over the past seven years at Cincinnati Children's Hospital.

Jeffrey's 5K Family Fun Walk will begin at noon Saturday, May 10, at Ronald Reagan Voice of Freedom Park. Baby joggers and strollers are allowed. The event will occur rain or shine, with proceeds benefitting the Jeffrey Thomas Hayden Foundation and pediatric cancer research. All walkers who collect $100 in pledges will be entered into a drawing to win a Nintendo Wii. Registration opens at 9 a.m. and is $25.

International children's choir
to perform locally
The Springdale Church of the Nazarene will host the African Children's Choir at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, at the church, 11177 Springfield Pike.
The choir is comprised of children ages 6-10 from Uganda, Rwanda and Kenya, who are not only musical, but who also come from some of the most desperate villages. Many are orphaned due to poverty and disease. They have most recently performed on "American Idol" and "The Ellen DeGeneres Show." Money raised from their concerts will help build schools throughout Africa.

Mandarine treats special moms with extra special care
Mandarine Hair, Foot and Body Spa, 7639 Voice of America Centre Drive, is honoring those extra-special moms this Mother's Day. The salon is offering free haircuts, chair massages, eyebrow waxing or threading to foster moms, military moms and moms of children with special needs from 8 to 11 a.m. Mondays through Thursdays in May.
