A familiar sentimental song

Chris Garcia

Austin American Statesman

"Rote and routine emotional pablum about friendship and salvation through art, but Joe Wright's occasionally visionary direction keeps it aloft, just above the snoozingly ordinary."

'The Soloist' scores but overplays its hand

Eric Robinette, a.k.a. "Sir Critic"

Dayton Daily News

"Foxx and Downey cut to the heart of the story, which is about the healing power of friendship."

"waste of time. sad to see these two fine actors is such a repetitive movie (a.k.a.- Rain Man) how many more Hollywood actors are gonna play mentally challenged/physically handicapped roles!! I mean Robert Downey said it best in Tropic Thunder...."dont ever go full retard....you went full retard man!" Jamie fox went full retard and this film was a 2hour waste of my time."

"Both Jamie Foxx and Robert Downey Jr. have solidified themselves as outstanding actors. This movie is based on actual people and events and I feel that those individuals who are critical of the movie it is because most people go to movies to excape the tradegied of life. Case in point, the last two weeks movies are based on nothing of any substance."

"Saw the screening last week. Artsy, allegorical, shows the plight of the people we throw out on the street who need the most help, much beacuse of tax cuts. Good Beethoven and Bach music. "

"Jamie Foxx and Robert Downey Jr are phenomenal! However, I found it kind of hard to stay with the story. On top of that, the music was so loud in some of the scenes that you could not hear the dialogue. There are some good messages in this movie: why some people remain homeless even when they have others willing to help, and the fact that you can't fix some people no matter how much you care about them. This would be a great Netflix movie. "
