Review: From Dewey Nicks, director of an Ameritrade commercial, comes this rancid and inane teen comedy.

It's about three "cool" college guys (Devon Sawa, Jason Segel, Michael Maronna) who get caught in one of their scams by a vindictive nerd who calls himself Cool Ethan ("Rushmore's" Jason Schwartzman). Unless they procure for him the attentions of a pretty coed (James King), he'll turn them in.

At odd moments, you can't help but wonder if this is intended as the high school take on "The Merchant of Venice." Cool Ethan's victims/tormentors are so obviously WASP, and he so obviously isn't. (Except, I don't think the plot is the same, and I'm positive Shakespeare never had a part for '50s sexpot Mamie Van Doren.)

Besides, any potential religious slurs aren't the offensive part. The offensive part is that this thing ever got made.

It is, thus far, the worst movie of 2002.

Eleanor Ringel Gillespie, (none)
