Hey moms, planning a waterpark trip. Here are five survival tips from one mom to another:
Waterparks are exciting and tiring, for parents and kids alike. A little planning can go a long way toward making a trip fun, not frustrating.
Cabanas are a great splurge. Ranging in price, these rooms provide a perfect home base, especially if you have a large group of family and friends. There are usually tables and chaise lounges. Some come equipped with televisions, mini-fridges and, even, iPod docks. It beats trying to scour the park for tables and chairs close together or searching for random flip-flops or T-shirts strewn everywhere. Little ones and weary parents, alike, can even take a midday snooze.
Snacking is inevitable. After a night of swimming, splashing and sliding, a group of kids and, especially, teens will easily be able to gobble down a large pizza – no problem. So, pack provisions. Most rooms have refrigerators and microwaves, so planning ahead and packing popcorn and pop can save on vending machine splurges.
Timing is everything. Experienced, as well as anxious and excited, waterpark enthusiasts are ready to play as soon as the doors open up. Ride the slides with the longest lines before the stairs become packed with people and inner tubes. Evenings can also be prime riding time as families, especially those with young kids, pack it in for the night.
It's not just child's play. A water park trip is the perfect opportunity for family bonding. Riders can double up on many slides and some even allow for as many as four riders on a single raft. Race your family down a slide or splash with them in the waves. And there's no sunscreen required on even the most pale winter body.
