Makes about 100
1 1/4 cups butter, softened
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
5 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
4 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 cup milk
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs and beat until fluffy. Stir together dry ingredients and add alternately with milk to the creamed mixture. If dough is sticky, add a little flour. Roll the dough 1/4 -inch thick on a well-floured pastry cloth. Cut out with cookie cutters. Bake on an ungreased baking sheet for 8 minutes.
Cool on racks and frost with butter cream frosting.
FROSTING
1/2 cup butter, softened
2 cups confectioners sugar
3 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
Cream butter, and add remaining ingredients, blending until the mixture is light and fluffy.
