Making your roses last

If a dozen roses are in the cards for you this Valentine's Day, don't let them wilt prematurely. Martha Stewart Flowers says:
♥ To condition the roses, trim the bottom of each stem at a sharp angle (keeping the stem underwater, if possible), which exposes the surface area exposed to the water. Wrap them in paper and let them sit in a cool bucket of water with flower food for a few hours. This will ensure that the blossoms don't droop.
♥ Always remove thorns from roses before giving them to someone you love. Use a stem stripper or a sharp knife to pare them.
♥ If your roses are wilting, give them a bath. By submerging your roses in cool water the pores will absorb the water, allowing the petals to plump and revive. ♥ Removing the browning petals from the outsides of the blossoms and frequent cutting of the stems will prolong the life of your arrangement.
