CINCINNATI — Sabu, a 20-year old bull elephant who weight 10,000 lbs. and is 10 feet tall, will return to the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden after 10 years of living at other zoos in order to sire calves. In order to prepare for his return, the Zoo's Elephant Reserve had to undergo renovations to meet guideline requirements, according to a release from the zoo.
Sabu will be part of a breeding program called the Asian Elephant Species Survival Plan.
According to the zoo, Sabu is one of the most important genetically valuable bulls in North America because he was born in the wild and is extremely cooperative.
