Accident, fuel spill clog I-75
Tuesday, July 29, 2008
WEST CHESTER TWP. — Traffic was backed up for hours on Interstate 75 during rush hour Tuesday after a crash left a semi tractor-trailer leaking fuel onto the roadway.
The crash, involving three vehicles and the tractor-trailer, occurred at around 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 29, on I-75 north just south of the Tylersville Road exit, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Police on the scene reported a 50-gallon fuel tank was leaking onto the highway, necessitating the closure of the left two northbound lanes.
There were no injuries, but the semi lost all of its fuel from a full tank, OSHP dispatchers said.
West Chester Twp. fire and emergency crews were able to contain the fuel spill before it stretched across all three northbound lanes of traffic, police said.
Environmental Enterprises, a hazardous materials company located on Cincinnati-Dayton Road, was called to clean up the spill while the right northbound lane was open to traffic, police said.
All lanes were reopened at around 7:23 p.m.
Police said the cause of the accident was still under investigation and no citations were issued, although one of the vehicles fled the scene before police arrived.
