Lisa Raabe, a member of the Faith Lutheran Church Relay for Life team, accepted a monetary donation from Talawanda High School's Family Career and Community Leaders of America with a smile and tears Friday, May 2.
Raabe, an educational assistant at THS, said she is grateful for and impressed with the student group's $512 donation.

"Last year, FCCLA had a team and this year they didn't, so they decided to give this money they raised and actually doubled the amount," Raabe said.
FCCLA member Kendall Moss surprised Raabe with the donation collected from candle sales, which was double the amount Raabe was told she would receive.
According to FCCLA advisor Leslie Black, the idea to donate to the Faith Healer's Relay team was student driven and resulted from a semester of discussing what the group would do with the funds they make this year.
"They decided to give money to fund something regarding cancer in the semester and it all came down to supporting a fellow co-worker at Talawanda and the team she'll be on for Relay," Black said.
As a 10-year breast
cancer survivor, Raabe has been a part of Relay for six years and said the donation is helping the cause.
"My mission is that my daughter doesn't go through that, so it's a big deal for me," Raabe said. "Every little bit helps."
FCCLA is sponsored by Butler Tech and is a group from Black's work and family studies classes. Students not in the class who wish to participate can attend the group's after-school meetings, Black said.
