Kings Island is being a bit coy about its newest attraction slated to come on line this year.
The mega park's new owner, Sandusky-based Cedar Fair L.P., announced that about $10 million has been earmarked in the 2007 capital program that includes the arrival of a "major new thrill ride" at Kings Island.
Maureen Kaiser, manager of Marketing and Communications for the Mason amusement park, confirmed a new ride is coming, but was mum on other details.
The park has about 364 acres of developed property out of a total land mass of around 700 acres – so they have room to grow, Kaiser said.
Cedar Fair bought Kings Island last summer as part of a five-park package of Paramount properties. Cedar Fair paid $1.24 billion for the parks.
Kaiser said there have been a number of changes at Kings Island since the new parent moved in. The annual Winterfest event was cancelled due to low attendance and 15 people were let go because of some restructuring efforts.
On the positive end, however, Kaiser said guests of the park will notice an increased attention to cleanliness and courtesy. Park managers will be readily identified as they are now required to wear ties, and she said there will be more "litter getters" and trash cans.
Chief among the new focuses is creating an atmosphere that is friendly and entertaining for the entire family from toddlers to teens to parents and grandparents.
"We are going to appeal to the whole family," she said. "This will be our 35th anniversary, and it is going to be an exciting year."

Cedar Point has lots of nice places to eat, indoors where you can sit down, get waited on and get a resonable priced hot meal. The festhaus is a joke, like eating at a highshcool cafeteria and nothing but cold crappy food. How about Macaroni’s south at KI. And amusement parks aren’t just about rides, though i love them, the word is AMUSEMENT, that’s more than just rides

Yeah, I didn’t realize there was a connection between theme park and beauty contest.
I’ve seen the type, (females)um..Tiffany? that wear heels and try to look like a million bucks.
You look as ridiculous as anybody.
I’m from Ohio BTW, dress respectably, and have all my teeth. Not that it matters.

In responce to the reference Ky. island it seems all problems with patrons being smelly and poorly dressed can be traced back to Kentuckians.Wow I’d love to know how they went about determining this.Did they personally ask each patron who did’nt fit there idea of a model patron if they were from KY.?iI don’t think so or they would be missing the teeth.

Steve, guess if your wife “makes” you do stuff, you must not have a “set”.
If it so traumatizing for you and your kids to hang with the lowlifes, umm…why go?
Oh, I forgot, your wife makes you.
And how does a theme park move forward with the most extreme rides by going “old school”. Those antique cars were kids and old people.
Man, what a downer you are.

Yep. Looks like it’s gonna be X-flight. From wikipedia.com: “On November 22, 2006, Geauga Lake park officials announced that X-Flight is being dismantled. The ride will be sent to another unspecified Cedar Fair, L.P. property. On January 22, 2007 green Vekoma track resembling the track of X-Flight was spotted at Kings Island.” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-Flight(rollercoaster)

I believe Paramount didn’t invest in PKI like they should have over the past few years. It has really gone downhill. One TERRIBLE mistake was replacing the antique cars with the Italian Job. Stupid. This park was just Viacom’s opportunity to shill their TV/Movie products. Media conglomerate prostitution at its worst! I am REALLY excited about Cedar Fair buying KI. Go back to “old school” with some of the rides as well as the newer stuff. Also, please return the camp ground.

We live 15 minutes from KI and my wife makes me buy season passes each year. I personally HATE going to KI because of all the hillbilly’s and “Gangsta” thugs running around the park. I also hate the fact that I have to subject my kids to all this rif raf. It is usually hot outside in the summer and all the hillbillys smell horrible. The motto when you go to KI is: “Tattoo’s Manadatory, Teeth are Optional”

Kings Island has the biggest, baddest, longest, fastest wooden coaster in the world. Nuff said
-need I say more? Really they should enforce some kind of dress code, you can buy attractive affordable items for that type of ‘event’.

I am no where in the realm of being a redneck and really dislike that generalization.
In my trip to Cedar Point 3 years ago, I found it to be much dirtier than Kings Island ever was.

I think that any park that would market itself to a bunch of rednecks, needs to do something to keep the rif-raff out. Last season, when I reluctantly went I was visually assaulted by large people in tank-tops, sleevless shirts, flip flops, and a cast of cousins that would make Deliverance look like a Milan Fashion show, and after reading the posts here, I can see why.

I have visited Kings Island only a few times. I have grandchildren ages 6,7, and 9 and they need some more medium rides they can ride on. they have outgrown the “version’ of kiddie land and still too small for the large rides and I ain’t riding no “beast’ rides. I always have to take a teenager with us to ride with them. Also the admission prices are horrible for that age group. I personally liked Americana better. That is the park I grew up in.

P.S. I live 25 minutes from PKI and I have been there only 4 times b/c it is so boring. I’ve been to Cedar Point over 120 times. That speaks volumes. Maybe Cedar Fair can finally do something with PKI since they couldn’t seem to fix anything before! I have also been to other Cedar Fair Parks.

Cedar Fair is making all the right moves. Paramount Parks have been failing fo r a long time and K.I. is a pitiful excuse for a park. Cedar Fair will make this a respectable place to visit. But remember, it will never be as good as Cedar Point, and that’s the way Cedar Fair wants it because it is their “staple” park. All the tallest, fastest, and true bests will still go to Cedar Point.

I love rides, I live for the summers to get a chance to ride them and I am almost 23 years old. I hope this new ride is amazing. I could care less about anything else at the park, it is an amusement park, you are supposed to have fun and be amused, and that is what rides do. All of these people who are so upset about it need to lighten up. It is a fun place to go, and if you don’t like it. Go somewhere else.

New Ride / X-Flight - Confirmed - (1/23/07) There were several reported sightings of X-Flight track pieces over the past 24 hours, both on the road between Geauga Lake and Kings Island as well as pieces already laid out in the Kings Island parking lot. You can see a few pictures at PKI Central

I’m saddened and a little disgusted at all the negative stuff on here…it’s not like the money to build this ride is coming out of your pocket against your will. I think Kings Island is GREAT and I can’t believe that with ALL of the negative things happening in our world, you people decide to complain about a park that you can choose to go to or not….. unbelieveable.

i lived in middletown for 32 years the highlight of the summer was americana, then it closed, and kings island. i moved to louisiana 4 years ago and when i come back to visit family this year i want to take my children to enjoy the food, water park and all the rides even if i have to wait in long lines in the heat and pay for the 2 or 3 days of great family memories.

Kentucky Island? What??? Cedar Point is BY FAR the better park.Unlike Kentucky Island, theme park visitors from Michigan,Northern Ohio,Ontario and Northern Indiana know to take showers when they get up in the morning. And the breezes off Lake Erie keep the long lines nice and cool.

I have an idea, why don’t you build a giant hole in the ground, start a fire and then we can all throw our admission tickets into the fire. Nothing like coming to Ohio in the summer when its 105 with 100% humidity and all the rides are a 1/2 mile long. Better yet, why do I even shower before I come because I get soiled at the water park with every stupid kid’s urine since they love to relieve themselves in the water. Build more places to buy boozer and Televisions to watch the Reds lose…

For those families that have older and younger kids mixed, I hope you bring back more theater-type entertainment in the form of shows for us weary parents and even more weary kids that need a cool relaxing place to kick back and rest. Cedar Point is known for their quality entertainment shows that Kings Island has dropped off over the last 10 years.

Yep, everybody wants new multi-million dollar rides, and then stops going to the park because “the tickets cost too much”. Amazing!

Upgrade the restroom facilities! No matter how much they’re cleaned, they’re still filthy and smelly - especially when it’s 90 degrees outside.

I hope area for young children in the waterpark is improved. Childrens area activities need to be linked closer to each other- how about some sand- not very appealing as compared to The Beach.

I hope they spend money on the rides they already have. It seems when they put in a new ride they pay a ton of attention to all the little “extras” to make it that much more appealing. (Ex. the cave and movie on Tomb Raider, the tunnels on Adventure Express, the space ship on Flight of Fear…) Then once it’s running they ignore these and they fall apart. The sound and lighting effects dissapear, and the decorations begin to look like crap. This is part of the appeal of the ride!

Yeah!! The bigger and faster, the better. It’s much easier to get to King’s Island than driving to Cedar Point for “major thrills”.
