Looking to eat out on Thanksgiving? Here's where to go

“Over the river and through the woods, to grandmother’s house we won’t go!”

The days of grandma slaving over a hot Thanksgiving stove has become a thing of the past for many families, as the cost, time and cleanup involved in cooking is not nearly as desirable as dining at the family’s favorite restaurant.

“There are a lot of reasons people want to eat out on Thanksgiving with convenience being one of the biggest. Here at Dad’s, our food is good, and we keep it inexpensive as a gift for the community,” said Robert Combs, general manager of the Middletown eatery.

Combs said he has a couple of regular groups each year that bring up to 30 people, but added single, regular customers also enjoy having company for the holiday.

“They’re nice here, it’s friendly and warm, and you feel like you are among friends,” said Donna Duncan of Middletown.

Duncan, who is single, eats at Dad’s twice a week, and said that while she has plans for this Thanksgiving, she would spend the holiday at the restaurant if she were going to be alone.

The White House Inn in West Chester Twp. also is open for Thanksgiving, and Manager Brandon Mitchell credits their family-style menu as the main reason hundreds come back each year.

“We have up to 300 regulars each Thanksgiving, and since we do all the work, the family has more quality time together,” he said.
