FAIRFIELD — Preparations are already under way for the annual Village Green Fine Art Fair.
Organizers have sent out a call for artists from all over the region. Art of any and all media will be accepted, so long as it is original and not reproduced art, said Sherry Armstead, the owner and director of Fairfield’s Art on Symmes gallery, a partner in the project.
The actual art fair is June 19, but the art deadline is April 30, by when entries must be postmarked.
Artists will be selling their work in two locations: at Village Green Park and at the Fairfield Community Arts Center. Armstead said this will be the seventh festival.
Last year’s festival drew about 50 artists, “and we’re hoping to increase that,” Armstead said.
The number of people who submitted last year was double the entrants in 2008, said Ben Strickler, Fairfield’s parks and events manager. Between 400 and 500 people attended the fair last year, he added.
Two judges will jury the show. Awards will be handed out for the top two craft and art booths, with best in show earning at $200 prize. The people’s choice will also be awarded to the artist as voted on by the public during the event.
“My goal is to create awareness of what talents lie in so many of our neighbors. And there’s always something for kids,” said Armstead of the festival.
