MIDDLETOWN — The Singing Auctioneer is going once, going twice — sold to those who attend the First Friday concert at noon Aug. 6.

There won’t be an actual auction, and the concert is free, but Dane Bailey of Berne, Ind., will sing several songs, some of which are about auctions.

The show will be at the Manchester Inn, 1027 Manchester Ave.

“We’ll be doing a variety show ... it’s based in Southern gospel, jazz and a lot of older stuff — a little bit of Elvis and a lot of comedy.” Bailey said.

Bailey travels throughout the United States, having performed at churches, conferences, conventions, fairs and festivals since 1975.

He has 11 recordings to his credit, including such songs as “Is There Hair in Heaven,” “Long Black Train,” “Route 66” and “What A Wonderful World.”

Gospel songs he might sing are “Touch of the Master’s Hand,” “How Great Thou Art” and “I Saw the Light.”

Bailey has a segment in his shows called “You Asked for It,” in which he takes audience requests.

He may also play a Big Band medley, mixing standards like “It Had to Be You,” “I Can’t Give You Anything But Love,” and even a Big Band arrangement of Willie Nelson’s “On the Road Again.”

Bailey also really is an auctioneer and may sing songs about auctioneering, such as John Michael Montgomery’s “Sold (The Grundy County Auction Incident).”

“You may not hear everything you like, but you’ll like something you hear,” Bailey promised.

The concert is free and open to the public.

Concertgoers can enjoy a discount at the Manchester Inn Restaurant after the show with coupon.
