The Broad Street Bash, Middletown’s downtown block party, will return for its third season next Wednesday, May 20.

The dates and bands are:

•May 20: The Whammies, an 80s band featuring Jason Dearth, from Carlisle.

•June: 3: DixZ Highway, a Fairfield based country-rock band.

•June 17: After Midnight, specializing in 70s classic rock.

•July 1: The Menus, who drew the Bash’s record-high audience, return for more classic rock and zany stage antics.

•July 15: Stagger Lee, a mainstay among local country/rock bands.

•July 29: The Websters, a rock pop/punk band from Cincinnati.

•Aug. 12: The Cleavers, a classic rock group.

Whereas previous bashes had multiple bands, each show this year has one band because that’s logistically easier, and because these regional acts draw larger crowds, said Tim Lewis, who books the acts.

“The goal this year was to step it up a notch. These are more regional bands, and these bands do two sets, from 6:30 to 9:30 to end the night. If we’re going to get them down there, they’re going to put on a full show.

All Broad Street Bashes are held from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Governors Square Park at the intersection of Central Avenue and Broad Street. Admission is free and various food vendors will participate. A new additon to the food vendors is The Jug, Middletown’s long-running hamburger stand.

New additions to the bash include a kids zone with inflatables and kids games east of Broad Street, and a classic car cruise-in west of Broad Street.
