One child was taken to the hospital with injuries Thursday, May 22, after a car crashed into the back of a school bus on Tytus Avenue, according to Debbie Alberico, communications specialist for Middletown City Schools.

The accident happened around 8:30 a.m. in front of the Tytus Avenue First Church of God, according to police. A woman, whose name has not yet been released, apparently slammed her car into the back of the bus, which was headed for Miller Ridge Elementary School.

Alberico said the bus had just begun its route and only three children were on board at the time of the crash. One child bumped her head and had a knot on it. She was transported to an area hospital, Alberico said.

The child's sibling, who was also on the bus, and her grandmother, who was at the scene, rode with the girl in the ambulance, Alberico said. The driver of the car was also transported to the hospital on a back brace, a witness reported.

Alberico said a substitute bus came and picked up the third student and resumed the route to Miller Ridge. The bus had to be towed from the scene and the amount of damage was unknown, Alberico said.
