Lisa Biales celebrates CD release
Friday, July 20, 2007
Just a year after releasing her internationally-noted "Chasing Away the Blues," Oxford-based singer/songwriter Lisa Biales is back with "Come to Me."
It started out, however, to be a collection of standards.

"I have a once-a-month gig at the Alexander House in Oxford where I get to test-market my new tunes, get comfortable with arrangements," she said. "I was getting a good response for some of the standard tunes I would perform there, so I wanted to put together a collection of those.
"But as I started doing pre-production, I would start working on something, then get inspired to write. Before long, I had enough new material for an album."
"Come to Me" does contain three cover songs, her version of "The Carol of the Bells," an acoustic arrangement of the Beatles' classic "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" and Sam Cooke's "A Change is Gonna Come," but the set is dominated by Biales' own tunes of love and longing.
Biales said that some of the songs she wrote during this creative spurt have a nice standards feel to them, so she hasn't given up on the original concept, but will likely reverse things by putting out another album of 10 standards and three originals.
For her CD release concert, Biales will be joined by special guest musicians Doug Hamilton on violin and Noah Cope on upright bass.
