5K race to benefit toddler’s transplant fund

Jog for Jonah, a 5K race organized to help pay the transplant costs for an area toddler, will be held Saturday, June 26.

Entry to the race costs $20 in advance and $25 on race day. Registration starts at 7 a.m. in front of Oakwood High School. The race is at 8:30 a.m.

The race is held on the one-year anniversary of Jonah Mays’ liver transplant.

Jonah was born on Dec. 17, 2008 and diagnosed with biliary atresia. He received a life-saving liver transplant at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center when he was five months old.

Organizers of Jog for Jonah hope to raise $30,000 for the Children’s Organ Transplant Association.

Costs associated with transplants are usually at least $500,000, according to the COTA. It is a national charity which guides groups in fundraising for transplant patients.

More volunteers are needed for future fundraisers for Jonah. If interested, call Tom Mays at (937) 432-9370 or email him at TomMays@sbcglobal.net

Donations also can be mailed to Children’s Organ Transplant Association, 2501 West COTA Dr. Bloomington, Indiana 47403.

Checks should say “In Honor of Jonah M.” Credit card donations may be made at http://cota.donorpages.com/patientonlinedonation/cotaforjonahm/
