Jane Austen gala in Dayton this week

A gala honoring Jane Austen will take place this weekend in Dayton.

The Dayton Region of the Jane Austen Society of North America and the University of Dayton English Department are co-hosts of “Tea and Diversions with Mr. and Mrs. Darcy,” on Saturday, May 15, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Jane Austen Society includes 4,000 members across the United States and Canada who gather to enjoy the writer’s work.

Included at this weekend’s event will be Carrie Bebris, Centerville author of the award-winning Mr. and Mrs. Darcy Mystery series; Kim Wilson, author of Tea with Jane Austen and In the Garden with Jane Austen; and Laura Vorachek, assistant professor of English at the University of Dayton.

Events include a High Tea luncheon in the Kennedy Union Ballroom and an English country dance workshop.

The morning program starts at 9 a.m. in the Jesse Philips Humanities Center’s Sears Recital Hall. The luncheon and afternoon program will be held noon to 5 p.m. in the Kennedy Union Ballroom.

Tickets are $40. Registration deadline is May 11. Contact Meredith Stoehr at stoeha@yahoo.com or at (937) 434-7567.
