Did U.S. senator cross line with daughter comments?

You know who’s going to be great fun? This Scott Brown fellow.

He’s already embarrassed his daughters nationally in his acceptance speech after winning a U.S. Senate seat in Massachusetts.

The Associated Press (and now every other media outlet) reported that Brown was thanking followers when he said this about his grown, gorgeous daughters: “Just in case anybody is watching throughout the country, yes, they’re both available,” he said.

“No no, only kidding, only kidding,” he said. And then he corrected himself: Arianna, a premed student, was not available. But Ayla, he repeated, was.

“My jaw dropped,” said Ayla on Wednesday. “I was like, that definitely wasn’t in the script!” (Her jaw did drop. Go on YouTube and watch it.)

Sure Brown’s the guy who could scuttle the federal health care bill, and yeah, that’s kinda interesting and important but he’s now the bumbling reason for a national discussion on daddies who embarrass daughters.

But it’s not even his most entertaining action. In 1982, he posed NUDE, nude I tell you! In Cosmopolitan magazine after being named “America’s Sexiest Man.” A U.S. Senator has posed nude!

Let’s get back to the current discussion: What do you think of his comments? Is he just a regular dad, not a stuff politician? Or is he an insensitive politician not thinking about his daughters?

If I had a dollar every time my parents said that about me…I’d be rich. I think that this discussion is reading into it a bit much for my personal taste.

Surely you have something better to write about. Every dad says embarrassing things like that about their daughters once or twice. We all learn how to live with it!

It’s a common joke for Dads to make when they have adult unmarried children. Only a liberal could make it an issue. You should be more concerned about Reid’s Negro comment.

Speaking as a Daddy’s Little Girl, this is hilarious and very typical of any dad that has a good relationship with his daughter. Also, the man that held Brown’s seat prior let a woman drown in his car after he crashed while drunk (I could go on about the many other illegal things our congressmen have done). Are we REALLY worried about Brown showing some skin? For heaven’s sake, it was Cosmo, not Playgirl!

It’s obvious that the writer wasn’t watching those comments live, although it probably would have been only on FoxNews. I was chuckling all day yesterday. The Brown family is going to need a sense of humor. I’m pretty sure he wasn’t a US Senator when he posed nude but, I can promise you that the voters knew about it before Tuesday.

By didnttakelong2 who are you guys? Indenpendents got Brown elected and 20% democrats also voted for him. Obama is a terrible president and people are well aware of his inadequacies. If you have the right to blame bush on the last 8 years than I have the right to blame Obama on a 1.7 million jobs lost, $1.7 trillion debt his first year, ramming through an unwanted health care bill, breaking promises on transparency, reaching across the isle, taxes, this list could go on and on.

“Little” Ayla has been making quite a name for herself, on her own. At 21, she’s an accomplished recording artist and performed on “American Idol”. She is also a 6’0” senior guard on the Boston College women’s basketball team, averaging 7 points per game. She and Arianna have already held a press conference trying to stop negative ads about their father. I don’t think the spotlight bothers her.

Good grief. Nice way to get a negative headline on the website. This family is obviously very tight, and I could see myself saying something like that. Winning wasn’t 100% on his mind, he still had his family and their well-being weighing on him. Nice jab at his pre-political life too; oooo-nudity before he was elected. Thats some bad stuff, nothing like a sitting President who got caught having sex in the big chair.

I don’t know. The bar was set pretty high. When he drives his car off a bridge and kills a campaign worker and then waits several hours to sober up and call the police, then I think we have a story. Everything else to that point likely isn’t newsworthy.

Go ahead and give props to Ayla. she played basketball against Wright State this season. Not only is she a good hoops player but, she has an extremely fine voice and stage presence. I vote that she sing at the next convention. As far as the nude photo in Cosmo, didn’t see it but, I’ll bet it didn’t “show” anything. Guess it would make as much sense to bring it up now as saying a DDN writer wet their bed or got spanked.

I am a liberal let me say. I think his comments are totally harmless and who cares. I think his nude posing is totally harmless and who cares. However, if this had been a Democrat who had a nude picture in Cosmo in his past, you all know that the religious conservatives would have had a Field Day with this - all family values and is that proper, etc. This isn’t a bid deal no matter what party this man is in - just remember that in the future the next time this happens to a Democrat.

You have got to be kidding!!! All the gaffs made by Coakley throughout the campaign get ignored by the media, and Sen. Brown is just having a little fun, after a much deserved campaign, and the media goes ballistic!!! As someone already said here, if that’s all you can find…just brace yourself for November!!!!!

So I just want to make it clear that now it is okay to have those who have appeared nude (well with a hand for cover) in magazines to be in office and that no side will sling dirt at the other? Is that true from the Tea Party members of this board and the Republicans? Just for future reference.

By Can't Stand Hypocrits

And I will be the first to admit she ran a crappy campaign and deserved to be beaten. That is a big different between “us liberals” and you who hate us - we can admit when we were beaten and we can admit our mistakes and move on. We don’t stand behind them and defend them to the death because of our pride and ego.

Burt Reynolds posed nude in Cosmo. You didn’t “see” anything in that picture. So, what is different in this case? Did they have to take the issue off the racks and keep it behind the counter? This was almost 30 years ago ( 1982 ) and, if politicians will held accountable for everything in their past, wonder if there would be anyone left to run. There has been a double standard and the Democrats tried to use it by bringing it up this time, too. The voters were reminded, if they needed reminded about Cosmo.

John Edwards must have wanted his admission to be released because I read it on an MSN news summary ( haven’t seen a tv today ). John Edwards was running for president when he fathered this child but, you are correct, it didn’t influence my vote. I’d have to think that Scott Brown has different views on such things now ( it was 1982 ). The voters will decide if something should be held against a candidate…wish I had the power.

I personally don’t care either way. Be nude, have an affair, whatever. I’m not saying I condone it either, but it’s their business, whether last year or 30 years ago. The point is that if tomorrow, it would be found that 30 years ago Nancy Pelosi had posed nude for Cosmoo, I have to believe it would be a field day for many many conservatives and Republicans. I would like someone to tell me that they wouldn’t care and would just brush it off like it was no big deal.

I’ve been watching Fox today. All I heard them talk about is the possibility of 20+ years for misuse of campaign funds. “The story” was that Edwards was being reviewed for indictment by a grand jury. For what, why, and how, plus his admission of paternity (possibly part of a plea deal?) all was part of the “back story.”

For anyone who watched more than the election returns, you would know that the question of the girls’ dating status was one of the top 5 questions their dad was asked during his run. It’s unfortunate he didn’t provide more context, but then again, it’s unfortunate that someone supposedly writing a ‘news’ article wouldn’t already know this.

On the same day that John Edwards admits the child he fathered while he wife was going through terminal cancer treatment is actually his—even though he has denied her for 2 years—the DDN makes a big deal about a father making a silly comment a father made in jest. Silly me, I quickly thought you were referring to Senator Arlen Specter’s comments yesterday to Senator Michele Bachman during a radio interview: “I’m going to treat you like a lady….Now act like one” Specter snorted. Arrogant acts like Specter’s are exactly what helped Brown win in one of this nation’s bluest of blue states. Yet, the Journal wants to discuss a lighthearted and heartfelt speech from a newly elected Senator versus why he won? Liberal agenda in action or just naive journalism?

You want to report about a picture taken in 1982, but you don’t report about Van Jones (communist) or Bill Ayers (bomber) or Mark Lloyd or ACORN, so I call that selective reporting. You know that Ted Kennedy killed someone while driving drunk and then let the girl die while he sobered up? I’m glad Brown took his old seat. Maybe he’ll bring life back to the Republican party.
