Teens need immunizations, too

Everybody knows that babies and young children need vaccinations, but shots for teen-agers are also important.

So important that June is National Teen Immunization Month. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends children ages 11 to 18 be immunized against tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis, measles, mumps, rubella, meningococcal disease, influenza, hepatitis B and chickenpox.

And now girls may be inoculated against HPV, the human papillomavirus.

The Greene County Combined Health District offers the following clinic hours.

* From 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on the second Thursday of the month. The location is the health district offices, 360 Wilson Drive, Xenia.

* From 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month at the Beavercreek YMCA, 5560 Grange Hall Road, Beavercreek.

* From 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. the third Thursday of the month at the Fairborn WIC Office, 600 Pierce Dr., Fairborn.

The cost for the vaccinations vary and a clinic visit is $25 for the first visit and $15 for a returning visit. For more information, call 374-5653.

In Montgomery County, immunization information is:

* Public Health - Dayton & Montgomery County holds clinic hours at the Reibold Building, lower level, 117 S. Main St. Dayton. Hours are Mondays to Thursdays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Fridays 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (The clinic is closed between 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on those days.)

In Warren County, immunization information is:

* Lebanon Office: 416 South East Street. Walk-in clinic every Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Clinic hours also Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. by appointment only.

* Franklin Office: 333 Conover Dr., Suite B. Clinic held Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. by appointment only. For more information, call 513-695-1468.
