The Loire River flows through Dayton, Ohio
Okay, maybe I’m a little sensitive to these things, since I’m a Loire wine enthusiast and visited that region of France ever-so-briefly in the summer of 2001 (hey, at that time a dollar was worth MORE than a Euro). But my eye found more than a couple of lovely Loire whites sneakily embedded in the following tastings list, which comes to Uncorked via an intrepid Dayton-based wine listserv. I’m also mightily intrigued by the Austrian and German tasting next Wednesday (March 30) at Bruning’s — I’m cultivating a rather significant love affair with the sleek, racy wines of those regions, and you’ll read more about that in the coming weeks. I assure you, there’s plenty to love. Once again, we find ourselves at the epicenter of the wine universe here in Dayton, Ohio — as evidenced by the following gems.

I’m excited for the German & Austrian tasting, too. I hope we don’t alienate too many who want the usual Sauv Blanc-Chard-Pinot-Merlot-Cab tasting, but once in a while it’s fun to step out of the box. Who knows, we may even learn a thing or two!
