British blind tasters restore Bordeaux prestige

A group of British wine specialists who participated in a “Judgment in Paris”-like tasting of some of the world’s finest and well-known red wines — this time, up against a handful of premium reds from Chile, and only one from California — have restored a bit of Bordeaux luster, according to this Decanter.com story entitled ” ‘Surprise’ result for Margaux and Lafite against New World”.

The event was sponsored by a Chilean wine producer, so obviously the focus was on that country’s wines. But … Opus One as the only California entry? A wine that is more French in style than many French wines? That seems downright odd. Probably best to leave out California altogether than to include only one wine — and an atypical one at that — to represent the entire California wine industry.

Still, these tastings are fun little conversation-starters, are they not?
