Restaurant expands offerings in Second Street Market

DAYTON — The Black Rooster Pasta Bar inside the Second Street Market at 600 E. Second St. in downtown Dayton has expanded and has started serving hot foods, including pizza by the slice and pasta dishes, to market-goers.

Black Rooster offers three different by-the-slice pizza selections on Thursday and Friday, when the market is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and four pizza choices by the slice on Saturday, when the market is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Breakfast items and pasta dishes are served all three days, according to Dana Downs, who co-owns Black Rooster and Veritas Catering with Beth Hirschbach.

Breakfast items include eggs carbonara served with crostini and garlic/sea salt potatoes, and stuffed Italian version of French Toast called Pane al Sole that consists of Tuscan bread stuffed with a mixture of mascarpone, maple syrup and cinnamon and topped with seasonal fruit compote or berries.

Downs said the market vendor also has expanded its selection of heat-at-home frozen offerings to include dishes such as Lobster & Tomato Basil Bisque, Prosciutto and Cannellini Bean Soup and Tuscan Pot Roast with Rosemary Potatoes.
