New restaurant poised to open this week in Troy
Kent’s Wood-Fired Steaks, the new restaurant that we told you about back on July 1, is scheduled to open Thursday, Oct. 8, according to its owner, Kent Wolters.
The restaurant is located at 1750 W. Main St., west of I-75 on Ohio 41. Including its banquet room, Kent’s seats 280 and will open with 105 employees, Wolter said. It will be open seven days a week for lunch and dinner.
In addition to a variety of steaks, Kent’s Wood-Fired Steaks will offer seafood selections such as lobster, shrimp and salmon, as well as five vegetarian menu items, Wolters said. The restaurant has a full-service liquor license.
Live music is planned for this weekend (Oct. 9-10) at the restaurant’s piano bar as part of the grand opening.
Wolters, a district manager for Crown Equipment Corp. of New Bremen who also races sprint cars at Eldora, said he’s pleased with the reception and support the restaurant has received even before it opens.
“The word is out,” Wolters said. “Our banquet room is already well-booked.”

I recently held a business dinner at Kent’s. I reserved their banquet room and we had a little over 30 people in our group. We had 3 female servers taking care of us who did an amazing job. Very friendly, never had to ask for refills or anything of that nature. They were on top of it when it came to service. Our food came out as ordered, in a timely manner, and was of great quality. The people in my group were very happy with their dinner and I did not hear of one complaint. I will most certainly book my next event there as they have made a great impression on me. Great job to the staff at Kent’s in Troy!

I am sorry to see the comments of people who have not had a good experience at Kent’s, as I had a great dinner there. My husband & I went there for dinner on a saturday night and had a wonderful time. Our food was amazing and the service we had was excellent. Also towards the end of our meal Kent came out and introduced himself & asked how our experience was. My husband & I found him to be very professional and not at all arrogant as I saw on another comment. We had very enjoyable evening there and plan to return very soon.

Well, there appears to be problems with this place. The weekeday lunch was abruptly stopped, only noted by a sign on the door. I tried calling to ask about lunch and only got a generic answering machine. One would not even know they called a restaurant. I also understand there are issues with staff and managers. We had a group going there this week but have decided against doing so as most comments I hear from people who have recently been there have not been favorable.

My wife & I went to Kent’s on a Friday evening. The valet I thought was a nice touch. The hostess area was a bit confusing however we did not wait long to be seated even as they were pretty full. Our food took some time to come out, and my steak was overcooked while my wife’s steak was undercooked. Our server was good, however while she was having our food remade, that’s when the bombshell hit. Even though there was music playing & it was pretty crowded we could quite clearly hear a man yelling & cussing at the staff in the back. My wife & I were shocked of course & when our server returned with our food I let her know that we could very well hear this person in the back & that it was completely unacceptable. She then informed us it was the manager on duty!! We told her we would like to speak to the manager before we left. My wife & I waited & waited and the manager never came out. The server said he was busy & that she did let him know, however after waiting so long we left. We will never be back. What a terrible way to run a business! That is completely unprofessional to conduct yourself in that manner as a manager. It’s not worth it for me to spend my money in a place like that.

I recently had the opportunity to dine at Mr. Wolters new establishment and although I was satisfied with the dinner I was totally unsatisfied with Mr. Wolters arrogance and lack of respect. A successful restaurant does not survive on just good food but a combination of food, atmosphere, and customer relations. I am always willing to try a restaurant again if the only isssue was the food but rudeness and arrogance will never bring me back.

I have eaten there for the forth time last night. Wow! the steaks have been perfect every time and the wood flavor is the best. It’s some of the best steak I have ever had. Kandi, some advise…meat, the high quality they use at Kent’s does not need to be cooked well done. It’s a grill, when cooked for to well done you should expect what you recieved.A good steak is best when cooked at mid rare and I would recommend medium if you don’t like it in the tempature manner good steak is meant to be cooked. I can’t say enough good about the our new steak house in Troy. Again, great Job for teh folks at Kent’s for bringing Troy what is needed.

We heard such good things about this restaurant and were ready to eat a good steak. We went on Saturday, October 24th. We were impressed with the valet parking and the doormen to open the door for you. We thought this was going to be a good experience. In fact, it sucked!!!!! We ordered the new york strip well done and they completely burnt it. It was totally black and tasted like a stick and lighter fluid. We each took two bites and did not eat anymore. They did not offer us any money off the bill which was almost $50.00. We will not be going back and I will dog them to whomever talks about this place.

I just had an excellent lunch there. The staff was very friendly and accomodating. The chef came out and introduced herself and was able to answer some very detailed questions. I was very impressed. Prices look very reasonable. I am looking forward to having dinner there soon and trying one of the “prime” steaks. I wish them only the best. The restroom was very clean and looked new. Not sure what the one poster was talking about regarding the restroom. It was not “decorated” but I went there for another reason.

My husband and I were looking for somewhere special to celebrate our first anniversary yesterday, and I remembered reading this article so we decided to check Kent’s out instead of going to Outback for steak. Boy, are we glad we did! My husband had the porterhouse and I had the prime princess cut filet mignon, and we both agreed they were the best steaks we’d ever had anywhere—period! (We also thought the pricing was very fair considering how great the food was!) The bread with garlic butter and the salads were good as well, but the steaks were to die for! We had creme brulee for dessert and couldn’t believe how wonderful it was—again, the best we’d ever had! Our waitress was great—very attentive and brought us everything we needed. To address some of Thirt’s issues—we were seated as soon as we arrived, there was no smell of paint, and the women’s restroom was clean and well-stocked. I didn’t think the decor was lacking anything—I loved the rich colors and wood paneling they chose. (I’d eaten there back when it was CJ Highmarks, a school-themed restaurant, and couldn’t believe the transformation!) Though in all honesty, decor isn’t terribly important to me when choosing a restaurant, and I’d rather they spend their money buying quality cuts of meat and the best possible ingredients than putting pictures on the walls. :) At any rate…we LOVED Kent’s and can’t wait to go back!

We visited Kent’s on Saturday evening. We made a reservation and were seated as soon as we arrived. Our party of 6 knew going in that the service would not yet be perfect. You can’t expect a flawless execution on the first weekend. The service was somewhat slow but you could tell that was because the group was just starting to jell. Our waitress was great. Everything we ordered, steaks, drinks, wine, additional sides were all very good. The prices were very good. We will definately be going back. Sorry Thirt has some issues - I did not have a problem with the restroom or the atmosphere.

This weekend we decided to try Kents for a birthday dinner. Upon arrival the first thing we noticed was very sparse decor, and a strong odor of paint. I am sure that they plan on adding some art to the walls, and possibly other decorations soon. The stone work is impressive and adds a nice touch however. When we asked to be seated we were told there would be a 15 minute wait. After about 1/2 hour the hostess informed us that they only have tables to accommodate 4 people. The other parties that were seated before us with 6 people in their party had made reservations. I strongly suggest making reservations if you have more than 4 people, since they have no bigger tables. I was unaware that parties more than 4 were that uncommon. After another 30 minutes, the hostess asked if we would mind a 4 top with a chair at the end, which we accepted. There was very loud, but good live music; a pianist and saxophonist. Our waiter was a nice, but very confused and nervous man. We waited 10 minutes before he took the drink order, he forgot to bring bread, and when he did he brought 3 pieces for the 5 of us to share. The bread was the pre-made reheated type, but o.k. The food took about 50 minutes to come out, and when it did there were many problems. The pasta was very overcooked, the pork chops could barely be cut with a steak knife, the fries were forgotten, the rosemary chicken was very dry and not flavorful, a side salad was brought out instead of an entree salad. However, the baked potatoes were very good, the sweet potato souffle was wonderful, and the apricot chicken was absolutely delicious. the steak was also good. They do have an excellent selection of drinks as well. I went to the restroom after dinner and the disappointment hit it’s peak. I have honestly seen better maintained bathrooms in gas stations. Rusty, dirty, old, and again not decorated, with only 2 stalls. When I think upper scale, the difference is in the details, and consistency. Valet parking and gas station grade bathrooms missed the mark. Overall the experience was uncomfortable, loud, boring, and disorganized. I will give it another try with a smaller party, on a night with no music, and a different menu selection. I see potential. As the head server told me, they are working out a few kinks at Kents.
