KR falls to CJ in 2OT, 56-51

Chaminade Julienne outscored KR 8-3 in double overtime to beat the Cougars 56-51 in a Division II District Final at Mason Arena.

The Eagles jumped out to an early lead in double OT and kept it, going 6-for-8 from the free throw line. They pulled to within three with 51 seconds left, but couldn’t get any closer.

Mariah Harris’ driving layup with 12 seconds left tied the game for KR in the first OT at 48-all. CJ’s 3-pointer at the buzzer rimmed out.

Arika Roush’s layup with 15 seconds remaining sent the game to OT tied at 44-all.

Samarie Walker missed two free throws that would’ve put CJ up four with 41.6 to play. Mariah Harris found Roush under the bucket for the layup to tie the game. Walker’s runner from the left side missed with 8 seconds remaining and KR couldn’t get off a shot to win the game.

A 5-0 Eagles run gave them the lead with 2:45 remaining. KR led by as many as six in the final quarter. Senior Saira House fouled out with four minutes to go.

The score was tied twice in the third quarter until a bucket by Lindsey Fenwick put the Cougars up two at 30-28. Mariah Harris followed with a steal and behind the back pass to House on a breakaway to make up a two-point KR advantage.

The Cougars led 14-7 after one quarter, but the Eagles went on a 10-0 run to take a 17-16 lead midway through the second quarter. But eight straight points by Saira House gave KR a 24-20 lead with one minute remaining.
