Tecumseh’s Embry joins Circle of Champions
From Cincinnati.com:
COLUMBUS - Wayne Embry was the only African-American at Tecumseh High School outside of Springfield when he was a student in the early 1950’s. He says he wasn’t a natural athlete but a lot of hard work and practice on and off the basketball court gave him a chance at success.
Embry went on to become a two-time All-MAC player at Miami University before embarking on an 11-year playing career in the NBA that led to him becoming not just the first African-American general manager but a Naismith Hall of Fame inductee in 1999 as one of the most successful front office executives in NBA history.
On Saturday, Embry was one of six inductees into the Ohio High School Athletic Association’s Circle of Champions. He was joined in the fifth annual class by Jim Houston (football), Harrison Dillard (track), Madeline Manning Mims (track), Phil Niekro (baseball) and John Havlicek (basketball).
