National award to be named after former Witt kicker

From Wittenberg.edu:

Forty years after earning second-team Lutheran Brotherhood All-America honors as a kicker at Wittenberg University, Fred Mitchell, class of 1969, has seen his athletic career come full circle. Currently a successful columnist with the Chicago Tribune and a best-selling author, Mitchell has been honored by the National Football Foundation with the creation of the Fred Mitchell Outstanding Place-Kicker Award.

What the F? He was 2nd team…he may have been a great kicker…but being 2nd team means someone else was considered better. It is disappointing that a national award for excellence would not be named for someone who was the best of his time…not 2nd best…that is like being the first loser…or taking your cousing to prom. Ridiculous.
