Ham applies at Lakota West
It looks like Larry Ham is hoping to get back in the coaching business.
Ham, a former South and Trotwood-Madison High School boys basketball coach, has applied for the vacant job opening at Lakota West. He’s one of 21 candidates which include high school and college head coaches.
Ham spent 14 seasons with the Wildcats, compiling a 235-92 mark, the second-most wins of any boys basketball coach at South or the old Springfield High School.

WEST CHESTER TWP. — The Lakota West High boys basketball opening attracted 21 applicants.
Now, the next step for West Athletic Director Gerry Weisgerber is to narrow down who he wants to interview for the position, which was open for three weeks.
Weisgerber said he will interview up to six candidates beginning Tuesday, April 21.
“We want somebody who is one, going to be strong with Xs and Os,” Weisgerber said. “A winning experience with what they’ve done, even as an assistant coming from winning programs. We want somebody who can teach the game as well as coach it — discipline on and off the court, motivating players and being able to get players to the next level as well.”
Scott Mueller, who coached the Firebirds under the interim tag this past season, will get one of the interviews.
“It’s a good list,” Weisgerber said. “A lot of good candidates. A lot of good young ones and experienced guys with good credentials. We’ll definitely get a good coach out of this.”
