Cooper, McKee making transition to basketball

Tecumseh graduate Josh McKee (left photo) and South graduate Michael Cooper (right, both staff photos by Barbara J. Perenic) wrapped up football season last Saturday, Nov. 15, as Wittenberg lost at Wooster.

Now they and two football teammates, Drew Fisher and James Tyus, are practicing with Wittenberg’s basketball team.

The season starts Nov. 25 at Capital University. The Tigers stay the night in Columbus that night and then fly across the country the next morning from Columbus to Seattle for a two-game tournament at Pacific Lutheran.

“We’re transitioning them,” Wittenberg coach Bill Brown said on Tuesday. “They are going just an hour yesterday, today, tomorrow. Thursday, we’re hopeful they can go through the whole practice. We don’t practice Friday.

“Saturday, Sunday, they go through the whole practice. We have a junior varsity game on Monday night, and I can see those four playing in that. It’s at Southern State. They will be at home while we’re in Seattle. Then game is on when we get back for them to see if and how quick they can move up the ladder.”
