Seven to run the high school? Why? Each elementary will have between 400 to 500 kids and have one principal. Why was Sanchez moved from Lincoln?

I’m saddened to see Linda Newsome is still principal at Snyder Park. Her no discipline policy is very dangerous for students and staff.

I’m very glad to see that Monte will still be at Roosevelt. I worked under him at Franklin and Roosevelt and he is a great principal !!!!

I am glad to see Mr. Wilson will have a job, he was wonderful at Roosevelt. Mr Brigham and Mr Wilson were a great team. I think it was a poor move on the part of the district to remove Asst. Principal from the buildings. With the increase of students in the schools I feel that the students and the staff will suffer. The Asst. Principals really keep the kids in line allowing the Princials to keep up with all the admistrative duties they have. I am afraid all the hard work that has been put in to get Roosevelt were it needed to be will be undone quickly. Best of Luck Mr Wilson we will miss having you at RMS.

I agree about Ms. Newsome’s lack of discipline. Its not even discipline. She just doesnt care. There are some bad kids that need tough love. You’re right it should start at home. However sometimes it does not. These kids dont know right from wrong unitl its late. I think the kids need harsher punishments for fighting, and even name calling. There is a lot of bulling in that school and it goes unnoticed. I think Mr. Scoby should be principal. He is the best thing to happen to that shcool, and he will be missed.

I am amazed myself at the number of principals in the High School! You reduced your staff positions, haven’t hired replacement faculty and you received more money than expected! What are you going to do? Concerned that you have not guided SCS in the right direction. I see more closures coming because of mismanagement, so where will our kids get educated? The county schools will soon have to stop open enrollment because they will not get funding for these students. What is guiding you or should I say who is running things?

It still the same # of administrators that the H.S. had when it was North and South…unfortunately still probably inefficiently and ineffectively run.

I’m so glad my children don’t attend Springfield City Schools. It takes seven to run the high school, and what is up with School of Problem Based Learning? Why such seperation?

The School of Problem Based learning is much like a traditional high school in its curriculum and approach. However, it is also committed to having students incorporate solving “problems” related to the curriculum they are studying. It’s more engaging than rote memorization and the approach allows students to creatively show what they know.

Why are there so many administers NEW TO THE DISTRICT? Don’t we have people within SCS that can fill these positions? If not, then the district is not doing it’s job of grooming people within our district for administrative jobs - which is why we have lost so many good teachers/administrators to other districts.

I have never understood the logic or theory of our school system to hire outside our district. Think about this: We have some highly qualified teachers and staff in SCS and yet we go outside to hire principals, superintendents and when this doesn’t work for them, they call on the good ole boys. No offense to the good ole boys but you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. Hire from within. Their are teachers that have the certificates to do these jobs, yet they don’t apply! Why SCS, don’t you understand that the way you have been running things makes your qualified people not want your positions in the district because they realize that the wrong person is calling the shots. Perhaps we need to clean house in the administration offices and the bad blood will be gone. Some have already left because they saw what was going on,and want no part of this. Those that have been here need to retire and or move on, can’t you see you could be the cause of SCS not being successful. Your putting bad blood out there and people are tired of it. Hope these newbies can see the light and can stand up to you old timers. Time will tell!!!

As I am reading the comments it never ceases to amaze me how our hometown people can be so negative. All I have read is complaints,as a concerned citizen what are you doing to make things better for our youth. Are you voluntaring your time in the schools to see what is really happening. I am a parent of children who attend scs.Do I always agree with the decisions, no I don’t but I support what they are doing. It is up to me to teach my children. Some of the comments are very mean about Linda Newsome, voicing your dissatisfaction, have you spoken to her directly? Most of the time when people are dissatisfied, they are because people are not telling them what they want to hear, but what they need to hear. So sad parents and others if you are that dissatisfied obtain a degree in education and become a principal.

I was one of the teachers who worked for Nicky Leach and I can guarantee you that 95% of the staff do NOT want her back. There was absolutely no discipline in our building, and she never backed her teachers and staff. Many of us have even gone to downtown administrators to voice our concerns. There is a reason she is no longer going to be a principal.

Yes, I have spoken with Ms. Newsome, I have tried volunteering only to be blacklisted at the school, I have even tried to speak with board members, other parents, etc. No one seems interested in the welfare of the children. I do teach my children at home to respect others and to have manners, etc. We have tried to send our children to a different school but was told I need to keep them in SCS so that the district looked good as far as having “intelligent students” for the “tax dollars from the state.”

The district needs to clean house. Hire from within, and build community trust. The district is loosing good employees all the time, and this will continue until there are major changes in leadership at all levels in this district.

Good luck with your new Humanities principal. Just talk to anyone at Barberton High School about the “great” job he did there. A huge party was held was Koennecke left out building.

Kirk Koennecke was the worse principal I’ve ever had to deal with. He brought the morale of the teaching staff to an all time low. Please watch your back with this guy. Don’t trust a thing he says or does.

It is amazing the complaints out of a city with many people paying very little of their own money to educate “their” children. New buildings for approximately 18 cents on the dollar and a huge kick of state and federal monies because of the higher than average local poverty rate. For those of you who know so much about how to teach and to run a school, perhaps you would be interested in the actual realities of our kids’ lives. The best part of the city school system is its ability AND WILLINGNESS to accomodate and to teach ANY child from any background regardless of race, socioeconomic status and disability. School is different these days, but the world is different, just as my job is different than was the job of any teacher I ever had. You adapt, and when you believe in the power of the good and stop wasting time on the petty stuff, you realize that public schools still have a lot more to offer kids than some of today’s average homes and DEFINITELY more than any computerized virtual school where kids don’t need social skills or personalities to survive. We are there 7-10 hours a day, 5 days a week (and more). When’s the last time you spent that much time with your own child for any reason?Kudos and THANK YOU SO MUCH to the number of fantastic and hardworking parents who believe in structure and support and who willingly emphasize education as a critical component of their child’s life. Those who spend their time and whatever resources they can to support their child’s growth. Unfortunately, those are few, as evidenced by the 5 parents I see at conferences, though I have 145 students average on my roster. It is nice to know that people find time to complain about traffic congestion, however (caused because people don’t follow rules, read signs or show up on time for anything), yet refuse to pay the school $100+ per textbook their kid has lost or destroyed. Or better yet, never ask their child why no books come home, or can’t remember report cards come out very 9 weeks (every year all 13 years, by the way). As for the leadership of Springfield High School, this community better give it a shot, because in case you haven’t noticed, there really isn’t that much in Springfield for our kids right now, especially our young men. The new campus director seems to mean business and the tone is one of professionalism and high expectations of his teachers AND administrators. And best of all, he thinks young men and young women should dress and speak and carry themselves as though they have PURPOSE and SELF-RESPECT. And yes, we have 7 administrators, that’s right, and 4 cops and 4 security guards. And it is great because they all step up to support teachers teaching kids who desire to learn and students who wish for a safe, distraction free environment in which to learn. It seems as though once again it will be okay to push kids and to expect discipline, respect and hard work. THANK YOU!!!! And for the record: regardless of what small school a student attends at Springfield High there are two things certain: 1) They will reap only what they sow and 2) There are some fantastic, talented people waiting for students willing to learn. Yes, there are bad teachers in education, just as there are bad doctors, unskilled nurses, incapable attorneys, talentless chefs and drunken airline pilots. Does that mean you shun modern medicine, refuse to eat in any restaraunt, or stay off of planes forever? Expect perfection out of yourself before you demand it out of a system. It might be good to support those you know are good.My children attend the city schools even though they have other options available because the structure, the adaptability of the teachers and the diversity amongst their peers will be a tremendous asset as they grow. And please remember, for the most part you still present the most influential opinion you child hears. If you bash the educational system over the dinner table or in the car, you just closed their mind and made my job harder. And just so you know, I logged 3020 hours for school last year. The average full time job is 2080. And I’ve never once complained about my salary or work environment. The only thing that still bugs me after all these years is the kid who shows up without pencil or paper and behaves as though my level of expectation is way too high because I think paper and pencil are a no-brainer when attending school.

Mr. Swanson is a lier and a thive. Mr. Swanson misused money from his last place of employment. When he was escorted out of the building, money was found in his desk. He lied about a teachers credintials. He brought over a buddy, said he was a teacher, and he was far from it. I feel sorry for any student who attends his school. BEWARE!!
