Karen- The Excellence in Education Awards are for traditional public high schools and the career tech center. Emmanuel Christian and other private and charter schools were not involved.

Just what Mr. Ahlm (Carl)of Kenton Ridge needed. Another reason for him to pat himself on his back during class and tell us how brilliant he is, while it takes him 30 minutes to actually start teaching.

Mr. Ahlm’s class is full of life’s lessons, and his class prepares his students very well for college. I don’t know why you’re so bitter about him receiving the award, but Mr. Ahlm is a magnificent teacher, and he deserves the award. If he didn’t deserve it, he would not have been chosen for such awards on several occasions. If any delay occurs in beginning class, it’s probably because he is waiting for the students to quiet down. If he didn’t have an impact on his students, would you please elaborate on why it was so difficult for the students to not cry when mentioning him in their speeches? His impact is profound, he has left a mark on all of our hearts, and he will be truly missed. What he and his class have done for me, as well as other students, is priceless, and I thank him from the bottom of my heart.

Well deserved, Mr. Ahlm! I’m a Teacher Librarian now and I am grateful to have been in his class. He really is brilliant - you could stop whining and learn from him.

Way to go Mr. Ahlm!!! I remember you always waiting to make students shut their big mouths before you start class, I think that is called respect, something you have been teaching for years! Thanks for all of your hard work!!! Many students appreciate it, starting with this one!

I came across this email by chance, but… I had Mr. Carl Ahlm back in the day. He was a nice guy and a good teacher. But, I can relate to “current KR student”. I remember Mr. Ahlm strolling into class 5-10 minutes after it started on numerous occasions, with him talking pointlessly to other students for another 5-10 minutes. Sometime, it would indeed be 20 minutes after class started before Mr. Ahlm would actually start class. I’m glad you learned life lessons from Mr. Ahlm. We all need(ed) a teacher like that in our lives. I had a few of those teachers in my day, too. But, Mr. Ahlm wasn’t one of those, and many of my friends from the day would agree with me. He was a good teacher, when he actually taught. However, his incessant reminding of us that he was once a college professor (at, I later found out, the mighty Clark State) and that he had a degree in “theatre” was over-the-top and annoying. I’m sure another award on his board - which probably has even more than when I went there - will only boost his ego. And yes, he has - or at least, had - an ego.
