Which local schools are in session on President’s Day?
Two local schools will use President’s Day to make up the large number of calamity days this year.
Triad Local Schools in Champaign County and Greenon Local Schools in Clark County will both be in session Monday, Feb. 16.
All the other Clark and Champaign county schools will be closed that day; most are planning to add days at the end of the calendar to make up any missed days above the allotted five.
September’s massive power outage due to a wind storm caused the days to pile up for local districts this year.

Students will be able to use athletics for PE exemption
Springfield High School students will be able to use participation in athletics, cheerleading or marching band as an exemption for physical education requirements for graduation beginning with the Class of 2010.
Here’s how it works: A student can have their P.E. requirement waived if, during high school, they participate in two full seasons of any of the following: interscholastic athletics, cheerleading or marching band.
For next year’s seniors they would have to do two full seasons next year to waive the P.E. requirement. For classes after that, it could be one season each of two years or two full seasons in one year.
Students would still have to meet the required 20 credit hours, so they would have to choose another class to replace the one-half P.E. credit.
This is something that was passed under Gov. Taft’s last-minute CORE curriculum push just before Gov. Ted Strickland took office.
What do you think? Should students be able to use athletic, cheerleading or marching band participation in place of physical education courses?
