Coalition plans to address board

A local coalition dedicated to equality will address Springfield school board members tonight, September 25, about black leadership in the school system, miscommunication and “quality of education for all students,” according to a press release.

The Coalition for Justice and Equality plans to speak at tonight’s 6 p.m. board meeting at the city forum on community concerns including “displacement of African-American leadership in Springfield City School; miscommunication by the current Springfield board; and Quality of education for all students in the SCS district,” according to a press release sent by the CJE, a group of community members and clergy.

I haven’t been able to get in touch with anyone from the coalition to get more information.

The coalition is not on tonight’s board agenda but could speak during the hearing of the public portion of the meeting, said Communications Consultant Kim Fish.

“The total hearing of the public is half an hour and if there are multiple people they’re allotted three minutes each,” said Fish. The limits on public participation at meetings are set by board policy established in 1998, according to the policy manual.

The coalition has spoken during the public hearing at previous meetings in August and September of 2006 and in May of 2007, according to board minutes. The minutes did not include the subject of those comments.

The board meets at 6 p.m. tonight in the city forum.

Well, lets see….Harper assisted in ruining this district by virture of her “lack of/ diminished administrative knowledge and her constant whining about equality for one minority class. You sure don’t here any of the other “minority classes” complaining. Why, because they don’t they just get the job done! The CJE what a joke!!!!

Harper and Watson left by their own decision. Wendy Ford, the human resources person is black. The interim Super is a North graduate, Cooper has been in the district for years. When you don’t have anything else to complain about find something, I guess.

NoBama- I deleted some of your multiple comments. I do not delete or edit comments unless they are repeated because of some posting issue or violate Cox Publishing policies (racism or profanity, for example), but wanted to let you know that your repeat posts were removed only because they seemed to be a glitch of some sort. Thanks!

If you are concerned about education you should NOT vote for obama. His community organization that he sat with ayers on was about education and Chicago has one of the worse education systems in the country. Is that what you want? McCain/Palin If you really some ruffles in washington.Because obama and biden are the ones who are offering you more old tactics. They know nothing about going against thier own party to help the people of this country. McCain and Palin do
