Summer learning — July 23
A couple weeks ago in the summer learning series I focused on opportunities for students with disabilities. Today, we’re hitting the other end of the spectrum — gifted children.
State law requires that school districts identify gifted children but does not require any services for those students. Most districts try to maintain a program for gifted children but it’s usually one of the first things on the chopping block when finances get tight.
The National Association for Gifted Children helps parents find resources for their gifted child’s education. This site, maintained by a parent of a gifted child, also offers a lot of resources for parents and even has tips to make the most out of trips to the library and other inexpensive activities to benefit gifted children.
